By declaring yourself a leader, you’re taking initiative
and moving into a role of influence in a lively and vital network that’s
changing the world. We’re changing the world, first by changing
ourselves and then by touching the world as changed beings. We believe
the change in us catalyzes change in others. So in changing the
world, we’re choosing to be the change we wish to see in the world. By
taking on this leadership role, you are choosing to be the change too.
Thank you for being the change and for helping to lead
our team!
INTRODUCTION
Humanity’s Team is a worldwide grassroots movement that
seeks to bring people together around a central organizing principle:
that the world can be changed — it does not have to be the way it is —
and that individual people can change it, using the power of spiritual
citizenship. Its global activities are based on the spiritual messages
now being brought to our world by a wide variety of teachers from many
disciplines.
Humanity’s Team, sponsored by the Conversations with God
Foundation, was conceived and inspired by Neale Donald Walsch, the
author of the
Conversations with
God series of books. It is an outgrowth of the sixth book in the
With God series,
The New Revelations.
It seeks to create the space of possibility for a New
Spirituality to emerge on the earth. It does not seek to create a new
religion. Members of Humanity’s Team act as "spiritual activists" —
people who take
direct action in support of the New Spirituality
— first in their homes; then in their
neighborhoods, places of work, churches, temples, mosques and other
houses of worship; and then in their communities, in their nations and,
ultimately, in all the world.
The New Spirituality is a term used to convey an idea of
a growing and developing knowledge and awareness of the nature of God
and Life. It does not seek to designate any fixed system of
spirituality, philosophy or religion. As such, it allows for many
definitions and paths toward a spiritual truth. Body, mind, heart and
soul are all seen as sacred. Even the exiled and unloved parts of the
Self are invited back into the spiritual fold.
The New Spirituality empowers each individual to find
his or her own unique way. It offers equality. It is diverse,
appreciating the full spectrum of wisdom traditions. It focuses more on
a patient process of inner transformation than on a rote enactment of
prescribed do’s and don’ts. And it encourages spiritual truths to be
made real, in the flesh of daily life, and not just spoken about once a
week from a pulpit. In empowering the seeker, the New Spirituality does
not rebuke organized religions. Rather, it asks the follower of a
particular faith to use discretion and imagination on the path.
For example, if you are a practicing Jew or Christian or
Muslim, you will be able under the New Spirituality to examine practices
and rules that may have made sense to ancient nomadic desert
communities, but may no longer be relevant to us today. Or if you are a
Buddhist, it will be legitimate under the New Spirituality to question
dogma which may have had meaning to an Indian monk in the sixth century
B.C., but which may not apply to life in the 21st century. The worlds
great spiritual leaders — Buddha, the prophets of Israel, Jesus, Mary,
Mohammed, to name but a few — were considered revolutionaries, and even
heretics in their day. They inspired their early followers to break from
tradition and update their relationships to God. Indeed, on his deathbed
the Buddha begged his disciples: "Do not accept what you hear by report,
do not accept tradition, do not accept a statement because it is found
in our books, nor because it is in accord with your belief, nor because
it is the saying of your teacher. Be lamps unto yourselves."
The New Spirituality asks spiritual seekers to be lamps
unto themselves — and bringers of the light to others. The New
Spirituality and Humanity’s Team are emerging at a crucial time in
humanity’s evolution. They are emerging at a time of a profound and
historic reawakening of the instinctive drive for spiritual wholeness,
for what is real, what
is in
the fullest sense. This progressively urgent and diverse hunger for
spiritual wholeness is being expressed in a world climate — or perhaps
because of a world climate —
in which deadly technologies are increasingly abundant and fighting over
different spiritual and religious paths and traditions could destroy
humanity.
This is where Humanity’s Team fits in. In the context of
a critique of modern life, Humanity’s Team seeks to change the world by
advocating that people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions and
indigenous traditions regard each other in a positive light — not make
each other "wrong" for the way they celebrate their impulse toward the
divine — and move from a non-acceptance to a full appreciation of each
other’s differences.
Indeed, inherent in the New Spirituality and the
Humanity’s Team mission is a belief that a richer and fuller existence
lies in wait for those who possess the tools to illuminate the world —
and that those tools are within each of us.
MISSION
The mission of Humanity’s Team is to create the space of
possibility for a New Spirituality to emerge on the earth, which could
create a world in which humans live in peace, harmony and happiness.
