It's not too late to limit or reverse the
impact of the Supreme Court's disastrous decision in Citizens
United v. FEC.
by Fran Korten
The recent Supreme Court decision to allow unlimited corporate
spending in politics just may be the straw that breaks the
plutocracy's back.
Pro-democracy groups, business leaders,
and elected representatives are proposing mechanisms to
prevent or counter the millions of dollars that corporations
can now draw from their treasuries to push for government
action favorable to their bottom line. The outrage ignited by
the Court's ruling in
Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission
extends to President Obama, who has promised that repairing
the damage will be a priority for his administration.
But what can be done to limit or reverse the effect of the
Court's decision? Here are 10 ideas:.....Read Article.

Kucinich: Afghans
Want to be Saved from Us, Not by Us
WASHINGTON - December 2 - Following a speech on the Floor
of the House of Representative, Congressman Dennis
Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement:
“Why are we still in Afghanistan? Al-Qaeda has been
routed. Our occupation fuels a Taliban insurgency. The
more troops we send, the more resistance we meet. If we
want to be truly secure, we need to redefine national
security to include financial security. Yet America has
record debt, skyrocketing unemployment, huge trade
deficits, record business failures and foreclosures.
“The people of Afghanistan don’t want to be saved by us.
They want to be saved from us. Our presence and our
Predator drones kill countless innocents, creating more
US enemies and destabilizing Pakistan. The US-created
Karzai government is hopelessly corrupt and despised by
the Afghan people. Our solution: Provide him with a
high-level US minder which will make him even less
legitimate. Another strategy: Buy or rent "friends"
among would-be insurgents and give them guns and cash.
But when the money runs out they shoot at U.S.
soldiers. We've played all sides in Afghanistan and all
the sides want us out. They do not want our presence,
our control, our troops, our drones, our way of life.
We are fighting the wrong war, in the wrong place at
the wrong time. What part of "get out" do we not
understand?
President Barack
Obama carefully avoided describing his decision to dispatch
30,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan as an "escalation," but
that is what he announced.
by Nicolas J S Davies
So what will his decision to pour more troops, weapons and
tons of ammunition into this already war-ravaged country
really mean, for Americans and for the people of Afghanistan?
On Sept. 4, German forces in Kunduz province in northern
Afghanistan called in a U.S. air strike on two fuel tankers
that had been captured by "anti-coalition forces" (ACF).
German officials knew that there was a crowd of civilians
around the tankers helping themselves to a windfall of free
fuel, but they called in the air strike anyway. This was a
clear violation of the laws of war, which prohibit attacking
civilians even when there are believed to be combatants
amongst them.
In the aftermath of the attack, it was found that 142
people had been killed, and that the great majority of them
were civilians........Read Article.

Afghans Unimpressed by
Obama's Troops Surge
by Sayed Salahuddin
KABUL - Thirty thousand more U.S. troops for Afghanistan?
Esmatullah only shrugged.
"Even if they bring the whole of America, they won't be able
to stabilise Afghanistan," said the young construction worker
out on a Kabul street corner on Wednesday morning. "Only Afghans
understand our traditions, geography and way of life."
U.S. President Barack Obama's announcement of a massive new
escalation of the eight-year-old war seemed to have impressed
nobody in the Afghan capital, where few watched the speech on TV
before dawn and fewer seemed to think new troops would
help..........Read Article

At midnight last night, the United
Kingdom ceased to be a sovereign state
We woke up in a different country today. Alright, it doesn’t
look very different. The trees still seem black against the
winter sun; the motorways continue to jam inexplicably;
commuters carry on avoiding eye contact. But Britain is no
longer a sovereign nation. At midnight last night, we ceased to
be an independent state, bound by international treaties to
other independent states, and became instead a subordinate unit
within a European state..........Read Article

Moore's Action Plan: 15 Things Every American Can Do Right Now
5 things to demand Obama and Congress to do
immediately, 5 things the politicians must hear from us, 5 things we
should do to protect ourselves and family.
Friends,
It's the #1 question I'm constantly asked after people see my
movie: "OK -- so now what can I do?!"
You want something to do? Well, you've come to the right place!
'Cause I got 15 things you and I can do right now to fight back and
try to fix this very broken system.
Here they are:
FIVE THINGS WE DEMAND THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS DO
IMMEDIATELY:
1. Declare a moratorium on all home evictions.
Not one more family should be thrown out of their home. The banks
must adjust their monthly mortgage payments to be in line with what
people's homes are now truly worth -- and what they can afford.
Also, it must be stated by law: If you lose your job, you cannot be
tossed out of your home.
